Redesign via Design Thinking
cSpaces.
I had been following this innovative venture backed by Mr. Ratan Tata - Good Fellows. It's a innovative project by the younger generation, a great initiative and an excellent cause - provide companionship to the elderly.
I was closely following their updates on social media and decided create a small project for myself, of the ideas that kept popping in my head. My Design Thinking approach for GoodFellows,
-
Evaluate the venture as a potential customer and list my observations .
-
Based on the observations , will I connect an elderly in my home/neighborhood to the organization?
-
Suggest a prototype design ( Good Fellows - A Redesign) based on my evaluation.
Observations:
-
Subscription fees & options after the 1st free month are not listed on their website.
-
Tag Line or the Mantra ' Everything Grandkids do' does not clearly indicate the benefits and beneficiaries.
-
Restrictions on the age of grandparents and support of type of disabilities is not clearly specified.
-
There are many videos of the activities with the grandpals but they come across as one day picnic rather than an activity that an elderly can be regularly involved in.
-
Theres not 'a place' that can be called as GoodFellows! It is unclear if the venture is meant to be a one on one interaction only or a community inclusion design?
-
I was hesitant to recommend goodfellows!
Design & Marketing
-
One of their logo 'typography' color - red didn't seem to represent the elderly.
-
The social media image and whatsapp profile picture is balancing the generations. It doesn't adequately highlight the generation gap and then attempt to bridge it.
-
Marketing is either not approached correctly or is not intended at all. Flyers, videos didn't come across as too appealing .
-
'Everything grandkids do' is partly a negative connotation for the social structure.
Prototype
-
Our prototype solution has 3 new logos and 2 flyers with suggested activities
-
Some of our design features are 1) colors 2) Balance/Imbalance 3) Specifics - Age, affordability.
-
Our solution is recommending community inclusion.
-
Our main aim is to give them - our GRANDPALS, a 2nd home/family
